Since its inception, the KORA Awards has been staged twelve times on the African Continent. For the first ten years, the ceremony has taken place in South Africa. It has since moved to Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire and now Namibia.
This year, the KORA All-Africa Music Awards will be returning to Namibia for the 2015-16 edition of the event. Thanks to CFI (Canal France International, the French Government broadcaster) African TV’s will carry the live KORA signal to an estimated CNN audience of over 700 millions viewers around the world.
Kora Awards is finally back and this time
it’s back bigger with a lot of cash prizes to be won amounting to
$2,000,000 with the best artist in the continent taking a lump sum of
$1,000,000.
However, the nominees were announced a few days back and our very own Dr. Jose Chameleone, Bebe Cool, Eddy Kenzo, Mathias Walukaga, Juliana Kanyomozi and Irene Ntale received their respective nominations in the categories of Best Male Artiste East Africa & Best Video (Dr. Jose Chameleone), Music Album of the Year (Go Mama: Bebe Cool), Best Video & Best Male Artiste East Africa (Eddy Kenzo), Best Male Traditional Artiste (Mathias Walukaga) and Best Female Artiste East Africa (Juliana Kanymozi and Irene Ntale) summing up to 8 nominations.
The music Doctor Jose Chameleone (Uganda) and Eddy Kenzo (Uganda) will have to beat Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Emmanuel Jal (South Sudan), Sat-B (Burundi), Tendros Erinias (Eritrea) and Awaleh Adan (Djibouti) if one of them is to win the accolade for Best Male Artist East Africa.
Our talented guys Eddy Kenzo and Doctor Jose Chameleone will also face off with Tiwa Savage (Nigeria), Mr Flavour (Nigeria), Cano (Equitoria Guinea) and Korede Belo (Nigeria) in the Best Video Category.
Bebe Cool’s “Go Mama” album earned him a spot in the awards receiving a Best Album nomination alongside Suzana Lebrano’s “Vitoria” (Cape Verde), The Soil’s “Nostalgic Moments” (South Africa), EES’ “Authentic Rebel” (Namibia), Tinariwen’s “Emmaar” (Mali) and Jovi’s “Mboko God” (Cameroon).
